In 2019, Sascha composed the music for the romantic comedy Tell Me I Love You, directed by Fiona Mackenzie and starring Kaniehtiio Horn (Alice, Darling), Krik Bovill (Vice), and Al Sapienza (The Sopranos). Additional projects include They’re Outside, directed by Anthony Hayles and Sam Casserly and starring Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser), Tom Wheatley (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), and Emma Burdon-Sutton (American Monster), which premiered at the 2020 Fright Fest, London, and Mentally Apart, a thrilling drama by Joe Pomarico. Sascha’s original musical score won prizes in several competitions, including the Los Angeles Motion Picture Awards (Best Score), Los Angeles Film Awards (Honorable Mention: Score) and New York Film Awards (Best Score).
Sascha’s approach to creating music for any project, be it large or small in scale, is driven by finding the most suitable musical language for the film’s plot. Experimenting in his state-of-the-art recording studio, and in close communication with his collaborators, he develops a deep connection to the project’s heart, and brings the colours and depths of its emotions to musical life. Depending on the creative needs, he invites soloists, ensembles, and orchestras to recording sessions, enriching his musical landscape.
Raised in a musician’s family, Sascha began to study classical piano at a very early age. Focusing on the development of a profound, wide-ranging musical understanding, he laid his theoretical foundation by studying piano, music theory and composition at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock. Here, he dove deep into the analysis of early music from the 15th century, up until the late romantic period, jazz and film composers of the 20th century. These varied influences, combined with his active career as a jazz, pop and rock pianist continue to inspire him in his work every day.
Coming from a classically and pop/world musically trained background, he enhanced his musical knowledge during various film scoring programs. Sascha studied the Master of Composition for Film and Television at the London College of Music, which he passed with distinction. He had the exclusive opportunity to refine his craft in the revered Masterclasses conducted by internationally acclaimed artists such as Danny Elfman, Conrad Pope, Nan Schwartz, TJ Lindgren, and William Ross.
